Kwaguilth First Nations Sun Star

$1,250.00

This large and impressive vintage Sun Star wall piece was carved in 1978. WAS priced at $1750, NOW $1250!

Measures 30h x 32w x 2.5d. Interestingly, a decorated cord surrounds the sun’s rays.

The artist was born in 1947 on Gilford Island and raised at Kingcome Inlet. He prefers to work in the soft red cedar local to British Columbia and carves superb masks, totems, sculptures, plaques and talking sticks.

The artist is not only a master carver himself, but was also the highest ranking chief in Kingcome Inlet for a time.

Importantly, he was the first chief in the Kwaguilth Nation to hold a Potlatch after the ban was lifted in 1952. This Sun Star is a very special piece.

The Sun Symbol
The Sun represents life-giving abundance with its warmth radiating healing and peace. The sun was freed and given back to the earth by the Raven, who released it out of its confining box. Since then it has given all humankind warmth, light, and life. It was once believed that one could reach the sun by climbing a chain of arrows and that one would get down by sliding down the rays.
