The Rock Cod, or Rockfish, is closely associated with Komokwa, the King of the Undersea World. The rockfish has an affinity to copper, and to treasures. Representations of the Rock Cod will often be seen in dances during the winter ceremonies. Anyone who enjoys seafood knows that Rock Cod is a rich and delicious choice dish, indeed fit for a king.

The artist is a member of the Kwakwaka’wakw First Nation, with roots in Alert Bay, a small island off of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. He took to carving naturally at age 11 and soon proved his natural talent as an artist. His designs feature bright color, deep and precise carving, and lively playful designs. Typically he carves in magnificent old-growth yellow cedar from tribal lands.
